James: Steadfast Faith
The book of James, sometimes known as the “Proverbs of the New Testament,” points us to what true wisdom looks like and the foundational truth of the Christian life, steadfast faith should lead to a life of obedience. It is only by faith that we can walk through trials and remain joyful, it is only by faith that our works can be sustained, it is by faith that our tongues bless and not curse, it is faith that causes us to show mercy, to lead lives of true religion, and walk in a manner worthy of the Gospel that progressively sanctifies us until one day we will be in glory, around the throne with every tribe, tongue, and nation worshipping the Lord and celebrating the wedding feast of the Lamb! Without faith, we become the man in the mirror staring at his face but then forgets the way he looks as soon as he turns away, we become the ship tossed and thrown by the winds of the sea, we become those who cannot stand under trial, and without faith we become hearers and not doers of God’s Word. James doesn’t teach that we must work in order to be saved, but that our salvation leads us to faithful work! This is the message of James - Steadfast faith is what saves us and leads us to obedience.
Join us as we walk through the book of James this fall and see what it means to have steadfast faith that leads to obedience!
