The Gospel According To Luke
The Gospel is for all!
Jews and Gentiles, sinners and tax collectors, the lost and broken, the sick in need of healing, and the prideful who think they have all they need. The Gospel is for every one of us!
This “orderly account” (1:3) from the great physician, historian, and missionary gives us a beautiful portrait of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, the Son of God, who has come to earth to fulfill the long covenant promise between God and His people. It is written that we may have certainty and assurance that Jesus is who He says He is, the Son of God and Savior of the world, and that faith in Him gives us access to the Kingdom of God.
From start to finish Luke articulates Jesus’ story as accessible to the unknown, the outcast, the lost, and the hopeless! He shows us that Jesus constantly challenged those who thought they were on the “inside” in Israel by highlighting those “outside” of Israel being transformed by the Gospel, showing us that He desires transformation for all.
This Gospel account also gives us some of the most famous parables and stories that beautifully portray the grace and mercy of God. From the beautiful embrace and forgiveness of the father in the Prodigal Son, the compassion and care in the story of the Good Samaritan, to the transforming heart of that famous tax collector Zaccheus, the book of Luke continues to reveal to us that the Gospel is for everyone, that those who have a repentant heart, have humbled themselves, and have put their faith in Christ are now given a robe of righteousness, a ring that identifies their status as sons and daughters of the King, sandals because they are children of God, and a celebration of the heavens that they have come home!
The Gospel is for all, and our hope is that many will experience what Jesus described as “repentance and forgiveness of sins,” and cherish the embrace of our loving Father who breathes life into us, in order that we may live!
